Stop Smoking
« on: August 24, 2006, 01:28:48 PM »

Smoking in Denmark is expensive. If I stopped smoking and started to deposited all the money I could deposit

20000 peds per year.   :o

For that ammount of money I could buy Angel, or I could go buy a nice armor like Boar/Bear/Ghost/Nemesis or Thunderbird and hang it  on a wall in my apartment. I could buy heavy platings like full 6A. I could buy a Shopkeeper or a invest them into crafting skills, or go  crazy and mine everywere. I could go crazy shopping, buying ton's to closhes, buy a nice hundgun like Omegaton M2722 Adjusted or a VAT series rifle or buy Laganaus Arms Personal Cannon _just_ for fun. Smoking is'nt that funny, it ain't healthy, and blowing peds away in PE is both.

That really make me  :<img src=" title="Roll Eyes" />

Sounds like you have defined the problem.  Now, you have to come up with a suitable solution.  2000$ worth of gum??

ROFL...good post....choices? choices? Better health, less expense on healthcare, less money stuck in your mouth and a match stuck to it every day and longer life, more enjoyable life as you point out, with the sudden surplus of cash in game which is FUN!

I wish you luck in your daily choices :D

But don't forget to stick about half of it in a nice retirement fun for a long term plan to enjoy PE :)

We don't pay any healthbills, we get full health ensurance. Is in the law, so we pay tax instead. On top of that the company that im working for has and additional ensurance on me, incase I get serious ill or anything like that. So I'm insured up to my neck. Retirement account, I'm paying into that every month, even more that some people here in my company. I'v got a ½ house, and the house prices have been going up the last year, so even in that area, I'v earned abit. I don't have any eco problems, really, and that really the stupid reason I keep on smoking.

Last two week's I'v been smoking ONE WHOLE PACK a day. To much  ><img src=" title="Angry" />. My Dad's a mega smoker and he can eat 2 pack's per day. My my mother, step father, and my brother all stopped smoking. I'm the only one at work that smokes. I'm the only one were I live that smokes.

... must go thing about this ...

On a more serious note:

My parents were smoking for 30 years, countless cigaretes a day. It did not made them quit to realize how much money they were burning up (it all added up to a sizeable amount every year) and they were not taking the health risks seriously. Worse of all, having turned 18, my siblings picked up the habit as well.

Then my Mom got a heart attack about 2 years ago, quite a serious one. She got out OK but needed extensive stenting in her arteries. The doctors told her in no uncertains terms that if she kept on smoking then she would not survive another heart attack. That made her quit on the spot, cold turkey. Now she feels and looks better, has more energy, her voice sounds clearer.

For my Dad, it also took heart problems to quit smoking, same story as Mom

My siblings got scared, they realized what is in store for them if they keep smoking and within a few months they all kicked the habits. Everybody is healthier, happier and has some extra money in their pocket.

Hope the story scares our soc smokers as well.

I have tried to quit smoking so many times and would like to quit for the last time this year. If anyone has any hints or tips I would very much like to know about them. I too have family members that have been negatively affected by smoking. I want to quit so bad, but for some reason haven't been able to do it yet. Between Stone and I we would save over 500 ped a week if we both quit, however I must admit I am the heavier smoker and am the one who would have the hardest time quitting. Any advice is more than welcome :) I would just like to have healthier lungs. The doctors say that my asthma would go away if I quit smoking, and that would be a big plus in my book. I wish I had never started and I always stress this to young ppl who try to bum smokes off of me and I never bum smokes to young ppl especially if they're too young to buy them. Here u have to be 18 yrs old to buy smokes. It was too easy for me to get them when I was too young. I was able to buy them when I was 13yrs. I wish the laws had been harsher back then like they are now, I probably wouldn't be a smoker now, but then again I might. Anyhow, it's a terrible habit and it's definitely one I would like to live without.

Only advise is the same for drugs and alcohol.  You have to want to stop enough to actually stop.  Then, you also have to remove the temptation.  This means no smokes in the house, no visiting places where smoking is the norm < bars, taverns, etc>.  It also means not associating with friends who are smokers, a hard thing to do is to give up friends.

An alcoholic can't have beer and liquor hanging around the house, go visit his buddies at the pub, he has to remove temptation to "cure" himself.  This may mean you have to remove your significant other, or get him on the same no smoking kick.. then you are both support for the other.

Remove the things that make you want to smoke, stress, or fiddling with your fingers, etc.

Good luck, my parents and wife quit by going cold turkey, they found that easier then patches, gums, and other pseudo solutions, but you need to do what works for you.

This is quite true Ben but sometimes it is impossible to avoid stressful situations like me for example apart from the sheer lack of money in my current employ I am about to hand my notice in at work which will mean complete lack of funds for me for a while until I find something else which will open me up to all sorts of finacial hardship however for me to continue in this job I would have to be the kind of person I am not. You all know me as the real person that I am.

My Boss would want me to effectively perjur myself to continue in this specific job which I am not prepared to do I am open to any other vacancies however that may be available there.

** Jay reaches for another cigarette ** (damn I'll quit next week)

but the fallout of this is another smoke :)

I guess the upshot of this is at least for a while I'll have more time available to play EU and do some more on the website
