Thermal Death
« on: June 18, 2007, 05:17:31 PM »

mmmk, my pc died, a terrible death :-[. My mobo caugt a thermal virus it died.
I shall blame Intel for making a bios, inwhich they made it possible for the
user (me ?) to change the absolute thermal core shutdown temperature.
Last ½ year it thermal monitoring software inside Windows beep'ed ones
a while but I just did'nt care. Friday it shutdown automatically, but
if was still to late. I got it running ones more, then it passed away and
flew up into the mobo heaven.

So now I'm feed up with PC's, been working with them since DOS / Windoze 3.1.
Now I'm plaining on buying a iMac 20". 8) That might give me some headaches as
I need either a working WINE to run EU or I'll need to install MAC-bootcamp
(dual OS running).

Anyways .. see ya later next in one or two weeks.

Good luck, don't forget to add a few extra fans to keep the Mac mobo from becoming cooked.  Intel and MS have this thing, where they really want to fry your computer periodically as part of the MS system update plan.  Cost for new mobo, heck, I should just buy a new computer... opps, can't get new computer without new MS software.  Get the old computer running, buy a replacement mobo on ebay, and run linux, don't worry, be happy.

Atm I'm reassembling my 400 Mhz old Amd k5, that will give me alittle extra time to
consider which computer to buy, but the iMac really look interessing.

Pros

+ Nice design
+ No big box standing under the table.
+ Low Power (mobile processor)
+ Low Noise
+ Memory / Processor is upgradeable. (cpu difficult but possible)
+ Fast startup
+ Runs Windows or even Linux
+ Not realy more expensive than any other "Branded" PC such
as Ibm/FujituSiement/Dell with the same specs.
+ default Wireless, default Camera integrated

Cons

- Gfx card not upgradable.
- No pci/pci express slots for this or that
- CPU is fixed to mobile processor, so possibly not future quad cores

Well back to searching for alternative  :)

I sure hope you get that old 400 mhz comp running, because if it doesn't you may have to move back to some DOS based system or maybe Win 3.1.  (I think cell phones are more powerful).    With any Apple you are locked in with what Apple determines that you want.

lol sorry Ben :)

Wine is what they call a windows emulator for the Linux Operating system, this theoretically enables you to run windows programs but using linux as the core operating system

Linux is nearly as good as windows albeit about windows as of 2 years ago but it is very reliable and very secure (70% of the worlds webservers run Linux or some Unix derivative) even the advantage website is run under a non_windows based system and best of all it is free to use free to get and free to upgrade however it internally is totally unlike windows which is why this emulator has been made available.

I run linux at home on this machine as well as windows I just switch between them on startup, but I must confess I did put the new website together using windows based programs although I could just as easily designed it on a Linux system.

I hope this help explain things a bit :)

New iMac computers can install and run Windows XP and soon Vista as well.
I guess Apple is hoping to steal come pc customers, like me . Anyway If
I dislike MacOsX, I guess it's back to XP.  :)
