Persistent login on multiple computers
« on: March 03, 2009, 04:26:14 PM »

It seems as if the persistent login does not work from multiple computers.  Everytime you switch to a different computer and login, if you go back to your original computer you will need to relog.  Is this something that can be fixed?  I login at work and at home.  If login at work then I need to relogin at home and vice versa.  It becomes a vicioous cycle essentially negating the persistent login feature.

Yes,

I see what you mean, before the change to this Joomla/phpBB3 combination I used simple cookies to determine valid and persistant sessions, handy, but not the most secure way of safe-guarding sessions.

Now with this dual-login model, sessions and authentication are handled by the forum software, so , in order to be able to relax security a bit I would need to make some changes to this page.[attachment=0:2y1scykv]<!-- ia0 -->part-security.png<!-- ia0 -->[/attachment:2y1scykv]

not sure where yet ;)

I would assume it is the Session IP validation.  But thats just a guess.  The only drawback to that is you may lose the ability to Ban an IP range.  But not sure.

One other annoying thing.  Drop down boxes do not work properly in IE7.  I dont know if this is restricted to IE7 or not as I havent had a chance to test other browsers.  When you click on the dropdown and try to mouse over the values contained within the values disappear.  The only way I have been able to switch any drop down value is by selecting the box and then using up and down arrows.

Hi Xerces,

Yes it is specific to IE7, IE8 Beta2  it works fine with Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera and Safari

Personal skills upload page is on its way :) (Had a major crash and ended up changing motherboards plus added a new C:drive(SATA) ) so in the process of reinstalling everything again :( trying to get PHP, Apache and MySQL playing nice together again

No there is a problem in the Joomla session somewhere.  I just updated to IE8 RC1 and the problem still exists.  There is not an issue with dropdowns in PHPBB just on the Joomla site.

Yes there is a problem with both IE7 and IE8, there is a fix that involves adding some IE specific entries to the main css files the fix is already included in the phpBB3 software but not in that particular template for joomla, I will have a look at it, it does work fine with standards compliant browsers like FF, Opera, Google Chrome and Safari
